All about the music
Written by fmcgregor on 11 July 2021
Hi, Fiona here again. I’m here to introduce the first of a regular series of blogposts highlighting all the different kinds of music shows that you can enjoy throughout the week on Indylive.radio.
Our Musical Mission
You probably know that indylive.radio promotes Scottish music and culture as well as politics.
We aim for at least 50% of our music output to come from Scottish bands and artists, or those with a strong connection to Scottish culture and we want to do all we can to support new homegrown talent.
Our Shows
We’ll start this series with a closer look at the New Scottish Music Show, which we are proud to badge as 100% Scottish. If you thought that Scottish music was all ceilidh and kilts, you are in for a treat.
Despite the restrictions of the pandemic – or maybe because of them – there has been an explosion of Scottish new music releases, particularly in the vibrant Indie music scene. Every week Indylive.radio’s Steve C checks out all the brand new releases and adds the best of them to our New Scottish Music Show. If you want to keep bang up to date with what’s new in the Scottish music scene and maybe discover new favourites, this is the show for you!
Featured Artists
Over the past few weeks we have featured a diverse range of artists such as the Ninth Wave, Martha Hill, Hector Shaw, Artax, Post Coal Prom Queen, Avocet, Linzi Clarke, Staran and many more.
Some, like The Vegan Leather and the deliciously “dark country/folk” duo Nicol and Elliott have gone on to feature as our Scottish Artist of the Week on our Music Mix slot (we’ll cover more about that show in a future post).

We have been excited to discover new artists including Declan Welsh, Braw and The Frontiers.

It has been a great year for established Scottish artists too. Del Amitri’s new album Fatal Mistakes is proving to be anything but, while Mogwai and The Snuts have both had No 1 albums.

When to tune in
There is so much great new music being released right now that we broadcast the New Scottish Music Show several times a week with a unique mix of songs every time. Catch the scheduled shows on Indylive.Radio at 4pm on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. You can also listen to the best of the week’s New Scottish Music Shows on demand on our Mixcloud channel – this week’s show is right here:
Our Spotify playlist
Another way that Indylive.radio supports up and coming Scottish artists is our monthly New Scottish Music Spotify playlist. This playlist features the best of the new Scottish releases as featured on our New Scottish Music Show from the previous month. This is a great way to discover some new favourite songs and artists. You can also impress your friends (or your kids!) with your amazing music knowledge – and of course, share it with anyone else who likes to keep up to date with the latest music.
Spread the word!
I hope you found that whistle stop tour of our New Scottish Music Show interesting and that you will give us a listen either live or on Mixcloud. If you have any comments, questions or requests we’d love to hear from you on studio@indylive.radio or pop into the Discord chatroom and leave us some listener feedback. Let us know your favourite new songs or if you’ve discovered any new artists we should include in the show. Also, if you like what we do, it really helps us if you can add a “like” or a “follow” to any of our channels and more importantly, tell your friends and family about us too!
Our next music blog will feature our popular Scottish Indie Show “Wha’s Like Us?”, so look out for it in a couple of weeks time.
