In his latest policy paper, Paying Our Way, Peter lays out the case for a Scottish Payments Initiation System which would cut the cost of transactions between people and organisations in Scotland and allow Scotland to capture those costs within the Scottish economy rather than see them leave overseas into the profits of multinational companies like Visa, Amazon, Paypal and others.

The Politicians are acting like children…

From Laura Lundahl who talks about immigration in the UK and is titled “Goodbye you bigoted woman - The tears of Theresa May's victims should get far more attention that her's did”.

Mhairi Hunter muses on Trump’s State Visit to the UK, Philip Hammond’s seeming lack of knowledge that there is actually poverty in the UK and get enthusiastic about the Govanhill Sistema Big Noise Orchestra.

Red Raiph’s piece is titled “Good Riddance Mrs May” and includes a Cheerio Song to her! I interview Graham Campbell and he tells us about the pre-World Cup friendly international between Scotland and Jamaica, the climate emergency, marches in Glasgow and updates us on ongoing processes of restorative justice in Scotland.

And Debra Torrance talks about migrant seagulls and birds near extinction and how you should feel sorry for them before feeling sorry for a fascist getting hit with a milkshake.

Music is from the Blackheart Orchestra, Petrol Girls, Ms Mohammed, Salvation Jayne and our featured artists for June - Bioma. Bioma is a feminist queercore band, founded in 2017. The band arises from the encounter of four women from São Paulo (Brazil), carrying a intersectional feminist speech and libertarian (left-wing, anarchist), anti-rascist, anti-LGBTfobia and anti-CIStemic posture. Ungagged feature page on Bioma has info on them and links.

Radio Chat Box

IndyLive Chat - Say Hello
PaulCooper
You can't expect Eva to cycle across the North Seasmile-big
IndyLive Radio - Kevin
hehehe yeah getting ferry for that part
jjs999jjs
Ross Thomson becomes Johnson's top c**k in Scotland
RonnieR
I take it that means that the complaint against him is well and truly buried then? sad
jjs999jjs
as will any complaint against any tory mp
RonnieR
I'm sure that Ross will "grab" that opportunity, no "w***y-won't-he" about it, he'll take that "ball" and run with it tongue
jjs999jjs
such as with Chris Davies
RonnieR
Aw what? w***y is a bad word? OK ... Willie tongue
RonnieR
aye sad
jjs999jjs
OH FFS!!! UK could join US in assault on Iran, Jeremy Hunt says
RonnieR
f**k .... here we go again sad
jjs999jjs
Cheers Dougie
jjs999jjs
Just read it, great piece
PaulCooper
Unfortunately come Independence we may get that number of troops sent to Scotland again.
RonnieR
Always a possibilty sad
PaulCooper
I certainly wouldn't put it passed them.
RonnieR
Certainly Boris is capable of it I reckon
PaulCooper
With Hunt I am not sure about but he is a Tory so may be.
RonnieR
Yeah not sure about Hunt .... any man that can drink Irn Bru with his chips is OK with me! wink tongue
PaulCooper
LOL
jjs999jjs
Remember he never showed us actually drinking or eating...
jjs999jjs
Also remember it was most likely us who paid for it.
PaulCooper
jjs999jjs are you saying Hunt isn't human?
jjs999jjs
Do you need ME to tell you that ?
RonnieR
LOl guys smile
PaulCooper
Lizard man in a suit does seems a real possibility.
RonnieR
He's one of the Lizard People? Who'd'a thunk it smile
RonnieR
can't believe that we are only at 53% if BJ becomes PM sad
PaulCooper
Ronnie I know
Dougie Bendall
Thanks JJ, appreciated
RonnieR
Good point about the 16/17 yo or EU citizens not being included
PaulCooper
Though I think the Hi.an suit of Boris doesn't fit too well.
jjs999jjs
#Indyref2 whenever Nicola decides. #patience
PaulCooper
Hi.an = human
Dougie Bendall
I used to say later for IndyRef, now I think sooner, strike while UK BritNat parties are at their weakest
PaulCooper
As soon as we are sure to win it. No point having too early if that means we won't get another real chance for 30 years
Dougie Bendall
Strike hard and fast, expose the lies, hammer home the toxicity of the union
ESFY - Jan G
I'd like it sooner. However it's unlikely we'll have anything in place to hold one before October and that gets problematic. Turnout between Oct-April is notoriously low which will give more weight to postal votes
PaulCooper
So late next year might be a realistic time.
RonnieR
Aye that's my worry as well ... this really could be a once-in-a-generation if we fail again sad However Nicola's canny and has more information than we have so happy to go with he call
ESFY - Jan G
Because of that I think next May would be best
RonnieR
I suppose it is also affected by when the UK eventually leaves the EU 'cos we don't want Scotland outside of the EU for too long
PaulCooper
Ronnie agreed
IndyPram - Ray
Good article Dougie. With reference to having Nicola Sturgeon not having been on IndyLive.Radio, she has been asked to take part in an IndyPram podcast. I'm still waiting for a reply but time will tell.
ESFY - Jan G
Assuming we do actually leave EU on 31st Oct I can foresee a big swing to independence once the effects of tariffs etc start to bite.
PaulCooper
Jan, particular if we leave without a deal.
IndyLive Radio - Kevin
good point Jan although no more protection from EU once we are out
XSticks
If we crash out of Europe and lose any ECJ oversight of UK matters then London will use the UK supreme court to prevent indyref. They will tie us up legally just like Madrid is doing to Catalonia.
ESFY - Jan G
true, but because UK isn't member they are not bound by rules on not interfering in internal politics of member states
XSticks
Yes, but all Europe will be able to do is to say they support Scottish indepdence and that they would give us easy entry IF we choose independence. That will be no good if we can't get indyref from London. Only UDI then
XSticks
Bye guys. Excellent show as always.
RonnieR
Bye all ... good show yet again smile
ESFY - Jan G
EU isn;t the only body that could give us protection and help us to get a valid referendum.
IndyPram - Ray
UDI is a no-no. General election manifesto based purely upon Independence. Scottish Assembly called. Elected Scottish MP's vote for independence. Take to United Nations.
ESFY - Jan G
I don't believe UDI is a valid route. It's almost guaranteed to result in violence
XSticks
I'm not advocating UDI - I also think it will be a very fraught and difficult route, but esentially the Scottish Assembly/Electoral mandate/UN *is* UDI#
IndyLive Radio - Kevin
