Lawyers 4 Yes
Written by WeegieFifer on 1st August 2020
This week, on the Daytime Show, Val and Marlene talked to Caroline Welsh. Caroline supports independence and was one of the group of lawyers who started up Lawyers for Yes in the 2014 referendum campaign.
Caroline has in-depth experience and legal expertise in child protection and human rights. She has specialised in child law, human rights, nonhuman rights, crime, family, asylum and immigration. And she has connections with the Non-Human Rights Project based in USA.
We talked to Caroline about her political interests. She stood unsuccessfully stood for Glasgow City Council and was on the SNP Glasgow List in the 2016 Holyrood elections. Currently she is working with others on ways in which Lawyers for Yes can provide trusted information for the next referendum campaign.
After that we ranged over her many other interests including raptor persecution and non-human rights. Non-human rights is the conviction that humans are not the only animals entitled to recognition and protection of their fundamental rights. Out of that comes the idea of non-human personhood.
Intrigued? You can listen to her here:
Next time we need to leave time to talk about the Glasgow International Jazz Festival of which Caroline is a board member!
